Your Privacy on TutorStudio
This page is for young people aged 13 to 17. It explains what information we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
1. Who we are
TutorStudio is an online platform that connects you with tutors. It is run by TutorStudio Ltd, a company based in London, UK. When we say "we" or "us" on this page, we mean TutorStudio.
2. What information we collect
When you use TutorStudio, we collect some information about you. Here's what and why:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your name and date of birth | So we know who you are and can apply the right safety settings for your age |
| Your email address | So you can sign in and we can send you important messages |
| Subjects you study | So we can match you with the right tutor |
| Lesson notes and progress | So you and your parent can see how you're doing. Your tutor writes these after each session. |
| Messages you send | So you can communicate with your tutor. Messages are stored securely and can be reviewed if there's a safety concern. |
| How you use the site | So we can make the site work better. This data is anonymous — we can't tell it's you. |
3. What we don't do
There are some things we will never do with your data:
- We never sell your information to anyone
- We never show you adverts based on your data
- We never share your information with social media companies
- We never use your data to profile you for marketing
4. Who can see your information
- You — you can see all your own data in your account
- Your parent or guardian — they have a linked account and can see your bookings, lesson notes, and progress
- Your tutor — they can see your name, age, subjects, and lesson history
- TutorStudio staff — only when needed to keep the platform running or if there's a safety concern
- The authorities — only if the law requires it, for example to protect you or someone else from harm
5. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have rights over your personal information. Here are the main ones:
- See your data: You can ask us for a copy of everything we hold about you
- Fix mistakes: If any of your information is wrong, tell us and we'll correct it
- Delete your data: You (or your parent) can ask us to delete your information. We'll do it unless we have to keep it by law (for example, safeguarding records).
- Say no: You can ask us to stop using your data for certain things (like anonymous analytics)
- Take your data: You can ask for your data in a format you can take to another service
To use any of these rights, email dpo@tutorstudio.io or ask your parent to do it for you.
6. Default settings
Because you're under 18, some features are switched off by default to protect you:
- AI features (like lesson summaries) — off until your parent turns them on
- Session recording — off until your parent agrees
- Public profile — off. Nobody outside TutorStudio can see your profile.
- Optional cookies — off until your parent says yes
These defaults exist because the law (the Age Appropriate Design Code) says platforms must protect young people's privacy by default.
7. How long we keep your data
- Account data (name, email, subjects) — kept while your account is open, deleted within 30 days of closure
- Lesson notes — kept for 7 years (because they are educational records)
- Session recordings — deleted after 30 days
- Messages — kept while your account is open, then deleted within 90 days of closure
- Safeguarding records — if there was ever a safety concern involving you, we keep the record for 7 years after you turn 18 (this is a legal requirement)
8. How we keep your data safe
We use encryption (a way of scrambling data so only authorised people can read it), secure UK-based servers, and strict access controls. Only the people who need to see your data can see it.
9. What if something worries you?
If anything about your data or your experience on TutorStudio worries you:
- Talk to your parent or guardian
- Use the "Report a concern" button on any page
- Email safeguarding@tutorstudio.io
- Call Childline on 0800 1111 — it's free and confidential
10. Complaints
If you or your parent are not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):
- Website: ico.org.uk
- Phone: 0303 123 1113
11. More information
