Welcome to TutorStudio
Today we launch TutorStudio—a tutor-first software platform built on principles that matter: safeguarding, compliance, fair pricing, and UK law.
What is TutorStudio?
TutorStudio is a booking, payments, and safeguarding hub for tutors. It handles the things that slow tutors down: scheduling with families, collecting payments securely, managing student progress, and staying on the right side of child protection law.
We've built it for UK tutors and the families who hire them. Every rule in the product reflects something from the Children's Code, the UK safeguarding framework, or our conversations with the people who live this work.
Why now?
Tutoring is thriving in the UK. Families want better tools to find tutors and manage lessons. Tutors are building practices and want predictable, fair software. But most tutoring software treats tutors like contractors for a marketplace, not as the professionals they are.
We set out to build differently.
Three bets
Fair pricing. On paid tiers, TutorStudio takes zero commission on what families pay tutors. You set the rate, you keep the money, you pay a fixed monthly fee. That's it.
Compliance by default. We don't hand you a safeguarding checklist and walk away. Parental consent workflows, age-band enforcement, and DSR (data subject request) handling are baked in. The platform helps you follow the law, not just tell you what the law is.
Radical transparency. The code is readable. The AI prompts are logged. The pricing is plain. We publish our safeguarding audit trail and our compliance decisions. You should know what software does with your data and your students' data.
What we're shipping today
- Tutor sign-up and profile (with Founder Member pricing locked in)
- Family sign-up and student consent flows (AADC-aligned)
- Lesson booking and payment via Stripe
- Lesson history and student progress notes
- DSR workflows for families (subject access requests, erasure, portability)
- Full audit trail logged to Supabase
What we're not shipping: newsletter signups, engagement loops, habit-building dark patterns, or anything designed to hollow out your attention. Boring software that tutors and families actually trust.
Why these first?
We've built this in public for six months. We've sat with tutors, families, and safeguarding teams. Every feature we've chosen answers a real problem. The ones we haven't chosen—gamification, "trending tutors," commission splits—answer problems no one has.
What's next?
Over the next month we're adding:
- Tutor cohort and sub-agency management (for tutoring firms and school-based tutors)
- Family invoice history and export
- Parent portal for lesson recordings
- Whiteboard and session recording (encrypted, on-device)
Then we're opening agency applications. Then we're opening the marketplace to tutors who choose it.
All the while, we're holding the line on what we promised: no dark patterns, no enshittification, no rules that change on a whim because VCs got restless.
